The Indian Institute of Materials Management (IIMM) emerged as an All India body in 1975 with the merger of three professional associations- The National Association of Materials Management (which until 1966 was known as National Association of Purchasing Executives), The Materials Management Association of India (earlier known as Purchasing Officers Association) and The Materials Management Association of Hyderabad. This merger was in itself a milestone, thus giving birth to IIMM in its present form; the only professionally recognized Body in India for Materials Management.
